MicroDrink promotion in Serbia

The Serbian partners of the MicroDrink project — the Faculty of Mining and Geology, University of Belgrade (FMG UB), and the Public Utility Company "Drugi oktobar" — had the honor of attending the first meeting of micro- and nanoplastic researchers from Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, held on April 10, 2025. The event, titled "MIKROPLASTIKA ZA DORUČAK" (First Meeting of Micro- and Nanoplastic Researchers from Serbia, Montenegro & Bosnia and Herzegovina), focused on discussing strategies to combat microplastic pollution.

On this occasion, FMG UB presented the MicroDrink project’s concept and goals to the professional community.

Supported by the Superlab Institute, the conference aimed to strengthen cooperation among researchers, the business sector, and decision-makers in the pursuit of a cleaner environment.

Members of the MicroDrink team participated in the "Spring Workshop on Geology and Hydrochemistry," organized by the Petnica Science Center (PSC) in Serbia on April 23.

Veljko Marinović, PhD, a research associate at the Faculty of Mining and Geology, presented the MicroDrink project. The audience was informed about the current state of microplastic pollution in Serbia and the region, the selected pilot areas for microplastics research in drinking water sources, and the sampling and analysis methods used in the MicroDrink project.

Professor Dr. Saša Milanović talked about the problem of microplastics in drinking water and the international project Microdrink for the Serbian public service program (RTS1). As he pointed out, the project is expected to answer key questions such as: where are microplastics found, what is their origin, and how do they end up in drinking water.
