The Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic

The Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic is a voluntary, apolitical and nongovernmental organisation. Members of the Union are towns and municipalities.  The Union of Towns and Municipalities is a partner for governmental and parliamentary political representation. It participates in the preparation and creation of draft legislative measures in areas pertaining to the competencies of municipalities. The Union’s activity is primarily based on the activity of mayors, lord mayors and representatives who, beyond the framework of their duties, also devote to general self-government issues.

SMO brings into the project its long-going experience in working together with municipalities, serving also as an advisory body to these, amongst others in disaster risk reduction issues. SMO will actively participate in policy research and stakeholder mapping on local and regional level. Additionally, SMO will contribute to the comprehensive baseline study on TMFs in Czechia, as well as the development of a transboundary risk map for the DRB. SMO will establish and operate a Stakeholder Roundtable, involving the other CZ partner (OSU) and other relevant stakeholders, such as its member municipalities, policy bodies, NGOs. SMO will actively participate in the pilot action testing coordination and preparedness procedures

concerning TMF safety, and engage in transnational peer reviews related to the pilots. Furthermore,

SMO will provide inputs for the case study on the tested solutions.
