Shaping Culinary Tourism in Sarajevo Canton

The SReST project continues its mission to transform partner regions into sustainable, socially responsible, and community-centered culinary tourism destinations. One of the central elements of this mission is identifying local products, services, and culinary practices that reflect each region's unique cultural and gastronomic heritage.

Exploring the Culinary Richness of Sarajevo Canton

In Sarajevo Canton, the mapping process included project partner Sarajevo Economic Region Development Agency’s (SERDA) site visits to the picturesque areas of Bjelašnica and the Nišići Plateau. During these visits, the team engaged with local producers, farmers, and stakeholders who are instrumental in preserving and promoting the region's culinary traditions. These encounters were an opportunity to identify and catalog local products, recipes, and food production methods, as the local stakeholders shared their expertise in sustainable and socially responsible food production and the integration of traditional methods.

Laying the groundwork for socially responsible culinary tourism

The outcomes of these mapping activities will serve as the foundation for scalable tourism solutions, celebrating the authentic flavors and stories of Sarajevo Canton. By focusing on collaboration, SReST is positioning the culinary heritage as a driver of sustainable and socially responsible tourism development in the region.

The solutions, which will be tested in the next phase of the project, will be practical, inclusive, and aligned with the principles of socially responsible “slow food” tourism principles.

Together, we are building bridges between regions and creating opportunities to connect people through food, culture, and shared experiences.
