Advanced Additive Manufacturing Training in FDM Printing Technologies at University of Zagreb

As part of the course "Contemporary Additive Manufacturing" at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, students were introduced to the fundamental principles of model preparation for printing using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology. Through practical exercises, students acquired essential hands-on knowledge related to the post-processing of printed models, including finishing and preparation techniques required to achieve the desired functional and visual properties of printed parts. In addition to configuring basic printing settings, students analyzed the influence of individual process parameters on print quality, dimensional accuracy, and production time. Advanced printing parameters were further applied and evaluated on geometrically complex models, enabling students to gain deeper insight into the optimization of additive manufacturing processes for demanding applications. The practical part of the training was conducted using the Bambu Lab A1 Mini 3D printer, allowing students to gain direct experience with modern desktop additive manufacturing equipment and contemporary FDM workflow practices.
