In-depth article: Empowering women through connection and dialogue: The Hungarian experience
Within the framework of the WIN awareness-raising campaign, our activities in Hungary evolved into much more than a communication effort — they became a dynamic process of collaboration, reflection, and community building.
While we successfully launched a targeted social media campaign to raise awareness and reach a wider audience, we quickly realised that real impact lies beyond numbers, clicks or impressions. The most meaningful outcomes emerged where communication met genuine human connection.
Building bridges between activities
A key strength of our approach was the strong connection between the awareness-raising campaign and our pilot activity, particularly our podcast series. Rather than treating these as separate initiatives, we consciously built bridges between them.
The podcast became not only a platform for sharing stories but also a powerful extension of the campaign’s message. Through personal narratives, expert discussions, and authentic voices, we were able to explore the challenges and opportunities women face in the labour market in a more in-depth and relatable way. These stories resonated strongly with our audience and helped translate abstract issues into lived experiences.
A partnership that made the difference
One of the most defining elements of our campaign was the close cooperation with PontMost Egyesület (RightNow Association).
This collaboration went far beyond traditional partnership. Together, we organised joint events, engaged local stakeholders and created spaces for dialogue. However, the most valuable aspect of this cooperation was the shared thinking process that developed organically between our teams.
We worked together as a kind of informal think tank — continuously exchanging ideas, reflecting on challenges, and co-creating solutions. This brainstorming partnership allowed us to remain flexible, responsive, and creative throughout the campaign.
Meaningful encounters and local impact
Through our joint events and activities, we had the opportunity to meet women from diverse backgrounds — each bringing their own experiences, struggles and aspirations.
These encounters reinforced an important insight: awareness-raising is most effective when it creates space for dialogue rather than simply delivering messages. Listening to participants, understanding their realities, and reflecting these back into our activities made the campaign more grounded and impactful.
We observed that participants were particularly responsive to real-life stories and peer experiences. The combination of personal storytelling (through the podcast), interactive events and online communication created a layered approach that strengthened engagement.
What worked well
Several elements proved especially effective in our local context:
The integration of communication and pilot activities, ensuring consistency and depth
The use of storytelling as a central tool for engagement
The strong, trust-based collaboration with a local women’s organisation
The creation of informal spaces for dialogue and shared reflection
These components helped us move from a one-directional awareness campaign to a more participatory and empowering process.
Lessons learned
One of our key lessons is that impactful awareness-raising requires time, trust and genuine partnerships. Campaigns cannot rely solely on visibility; they must also foster relationships and create opportunities for meaningful exchange.
Another important takeaway is the value of flexibility. By working closely with our partners and continuously reflecting on our approach, we were able to adapt our activities to emerging needs and opportunities.
Looking forward
The experience gained during this campaign has laid a strong foundation for future initiatives. The networks built, the partnerships strengthened, and the insights collected will continue to shape our work.
Most importantly, this process confirmed that empowering women is not only about providing information or opportunities — it is about creating spaces where voices are heard, experiences are shared, and collective thinking can lead to real change.
