Active2Public Transport at URBIS: Slowing Down for People-Centred Mobility
The URBIS Smart Cities Meetup, taking place in Brno from 11 to 13 June 2025, will once again bring together representatives of municipalities, experts, innovators, and solution providers to explore the future of urban development. The event, organised in cooperation with four ministries and a number of key institutions, focuses on practical solutions, real-life examples, and cross-sectoral cooperation as the foundation for successful Smart City strategies.
Mobility will be the key focus of the third day of the conference, 12 June. Under the title “Slow Down: Creating Mobility That Makes Sense”, the programme in Hall A2 (TRENDS AGORA) will highlight the importance of intermodal transport systems that combine public transport with active mobility. This theme reflects growing interest in urban planning approaches that prioritise efficient, people-friendly, and climate-conscious mobility solutions.
A central role in the session will be played by the Active2Public Transport (A2PT) project, presented by the Austrian Energy Agency (AEA), lead partner of the event. The project showcases how well-coordinated transport modes – such as walking, cycling, and public transit – can form an integrated system supporting sustainable urban living.
Additionally, Austrian expert Irene Bittner will introduce key principles from the klimaaktiv mobil programme, Austria’s flagship initiative for low-emission mobility, combining planning, support services, awareness raising, and funding for businesses, municipalities or child and youth services. Complementing this international perspective, Czech initiatives ZVOLNI and CityChangers will present local approaches to enhancing urban mobility through education, infrastructure, and public engagement.
All sessions at URBIS will be available in English.
