Active2Public Transport Steps into the Final Stage at Bucharest Partner Meeting
In the final phase of the Active2Public Transport (A2PT) project, partners gathered in Bucharest from 24–26 February 2026 for the 6th Partner Meeting, hosted by the Romanian Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration. With the project entering its final months, the focus was firmly placed on implementation, practical results and long-term impact.
A2PT aims to better connect active mobility with public transport systems. This ambition is now taking concrete shape through seven pilot measures implemented in nine countries across the Danube Region. These pilots test hands-on solutions that make it easier to reach public transport by walking, cycling or hiking, and they provide valuable evidence for future replication.

From Strategy to Street Level: Learning in the Field
Reflecting this practical orientation, half a day of the meeting was dedicated to a field visit in Bucharest. At Parcul Liniei, partners explored the transformation of a former railway corridor into a vibrant linear park prioritising pedestrians and cyclists. The visit continued to Lacul Morii, where cycling infrastructure and bike parking facilities demonstrated how well-designed services can improve multimodal access to public transport. Importantly, the excursion also addressed existing gaps and less successful implementations, creating space for honest discussion and shared learning.
During the working sessions, all project partners presented progress on temporary street transformations, bike boxes, bike carriage on buses, integrated ticketing solutions, improved mobility information in apps and hike–bike–rail services. Discussions focused not only on achievements but also on regulatory barriers, behavioural aspects and stakeholder engagement, all of which are crucial for scaling up successful measures.

Shaping Long-Term Impact: Policy Brief and Toolbox
Partners also aligned on the final strategic output of the project. The Danube A2PT Action Plan will take the form of a Policy Brief, a format that allows for clear and targeted recommendations. The document is being prepared in cooperation with key international organisations to ensure that project results feed into wider European mobility debates and remain relevant beyond the project’s lifetime.
At the same time, the A2PT Online Toolbox is entering its testing phase. It will offer a structured collection of design principles, tested solutions and good practices, serving as a practical resource for cities, regions and transport authorities.
The Bucharest meeting confirmed that A2PT goes beyond analysis. With seven pilots in nine countries, a jointly agreed Policy Brief and a Toolbox, the project delivers concrete tools to strengthen the link between active mobility and public transport across the Danube Region.
