Czech Cycles Connected: Linking Pedals to Public Transport

In recent weeks, the Czech initiative Cyklovize 2030 has brought together key stakeholders to discuss how public transport and active mobility—especially cycling—can work in synergy. Under the leadership of the Ministry for Regional Development and the organization Partnership for Urban Mobility, a series of working group meetings were held, culminating in a two-day field excursion along the cycle route 3 from Prague to Pilsen.

The main meeting took place on May 20, 2025, at the Ministry of Transport. Topics included updates on the Cyklovize 2030 strategy, revision of funding rules for cycling infrastructure, and the development of a unified national information system for cycling. A key tool is the interactive map portal, which connects planning, funding, and coordination across regions.

The field visit on June 3–4 brought theory into practice. Participants cycled the route along the railway, combining public and active transport in real-time. Local officials from Beroun and experts from the Central Bohemian and Pilsen regions joined the discussions. The ride also served as a promotional opportunity for national media, with filming taking place in Černošice.

The meetings concluded that integrating active mobility into transport planning is essential for safety, sustainability, and everyday usability. The new methodology and data portal aim to support municipalities, link communities, and reduce reliance on car travel—while making cycling a viable option for all.
