New Integrated Tickets for Public Transport and Cycling Launched in Slovakia

A new travel experience is being tested in Slovakia — and it’s designed for the future. As part of the Active2Public Transport project, the Bratislava Integrated Transport (BID) has launched a pilot scheme for a brand-new type of ticket. The goal is to make switching between public transport and bicycles smoother, faster and more user-friendly. Now, passengers can travel with one integrated ticket that includes public transport and free bike transport, all in the IDS BK app.

Bike + Bus = Smarter Moves

An innovative solution is now available on the cross-border bus service operating between the Bratislava Self-Governing Region and Austria. The integrated ticket eliminates the need for multiple purchases and makes it easier for passengers to plan and navigate their journeys. Whether you're a commuter, occasional traveller, or tourist, this solution offers greater flexibility, reduces travel stress, and promotes environmentally friendly mobility.

Test Phase in Action

The pilot phase is time-limited and focuses on selected regional bus routes where technical conditions allow for testing the combined ticket. Users can buy and validate the new ticket directly in the IDS BK app and take their bicycle along at no additional cost. BID is collecting user feedback through in-app surveys and direct engagement to evaluate the ticket’s usability, passenger satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

While the current pilot is limited in scope, IDS BK plans to retain this setup as a model for future expansion to other lines.

Urban Travel, Upgraded

The test is a part of a broader ambition: to make urban mobility in the Danube region more sustainable. By simplifying access to combined transport options, the project supports healthier, cleaner, and more efficient travel habits. The feedback from this test phase will be crucial in evaluating whether such a ticketing model can be introduced on a larger scale — potentially across all regional buses and trains within the integrated transport network.
