On Rail and Two Wheels: National Working Group Meeting at Lake Tisza
After two successful meetings held at the office, the Hungarian National A2PT Working Group took to the field to explore the interplay between active and public transport from a hands-on perspective. The group boarded the first weekday-operated direct train from Budapest to Lake Tisza, a unique ecotourism destination and one of Hungary’s most popular cycling regions.
Located along the EuroVelo 11 international cycling route, Lake Tisza offers a rare combination of natural beauty, accessible infrastructure, and integrated mobility services. Upon arrival, the group inspected the bike-friendly facilities at the train station before heading to the region’s iconic cycling viewpoint—the only one in the country where you can ride your bike all the way to the top.

There, they also met participants of a parallel study visit organised for cyclist-friendly service providers. During the tour, the group had the chance to observe a cyclist counting device in operation, gaining insight into how data supports active mobility planning.
After completing the scenic loop around the lake, the group returned to Budapest by train—concluding a day of shared learning and sustainable travel.
