Workshop on Safe Street Design in Ljubljana Attracts Urban Mobility Experts
Project A2PT Interreg Danube TrainingOn January 29, 2025, the vibrant city of Ljubljana played host to a transformative workshop under the Active2Public Project (A2PT) Interreg Danube Training initiative, focusing on "Safe Street Design". The event took place in collaboration with international experts from the Global Designing Cities Initiative (GDCI) and partners of the A2PT project from the Slovenian Ministry of Environment, Climate, and Energy, the Mobility Center Burgenland, and Austrian Energy Agency.
The primary goal of the workshop was to familiarize participants with the principles and practical steps necessary for redesigning streets with an emphasis on safety. A key message emphasized that streets should not only serve motorized vehicles—safe spaces are essential for all users, from pedestrians to cyclists.
GDCI also provides a wealth of resources online for free, which is valuable for anyone interested in the future of urban design.

The afternoon session focused on the practical application of the acquired knowledge. Participants engaged in two challenging tasks: developing a circulation plan for Ljubljana's city center and redesigning a major street connecting the train station to the city center. Thanks to teamwork and expert guidance, innovative solutions were created.
In conclusion, the workshop in Ljubljana was an important step towards safer and more inclusive streets. The combination of expert knowledge and practical application prepared participants to shape the future of urban mobility in Ljubljana and beyond.
