From Miyawaki Forests to Climate Adaptation: Building Partnerships and Sharing Knowledge

During the spring and summer, the foundation's 10 million Trees Community activities mostly focus on communicating news regarding activities during the planting season and propagating ideas and sharing knowledge. The foundation held three larger-scale in-person events during this period:

The first Miyawaki Conference in Hungary: The event featured leading researchers, urban greening practitioners, municipalities, civil society organisations, and corporate sustainability professionals to discuss the practical role of Miyawaki forests in climate adaptation, biodiversity, urban resilience, and ESG-related initiatives. Réka Aszalós presented and touched on the progress and planned output of CLIMANATRES.

We also made progress on our planned cooperation with our Associate Partner Kiskunság Nemzeti Park. We discussed climate-adaptation options for sandy grasslands and degraded forest areas, including strategic tree planting for shade, open woodland restoration, and nucleus planting on fire-affected sites. KNPI committed to identifying suitable pilot areas, sharing maps and site information, and exploring how CLIMANATRES proposals can be incorporated into Natura 2000 management plans.
