DECORATOR results presented in Hungary on 22nd October 2026

The 24^th Annual Meeting of the Hungarian Regional Science Association was held in Debrecen on 21 and 22 October 2026. The conference was co-organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business, and the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen. It featured three plenary sessions and around 200 presentations in 26 sections.

The event served as a professional forum for disseminating the DECORATOR Model, project solutions and the practical application of New European Bauhaus (NEB) and Cradle-to-Cradle (C2C) principles within the built environment. Emphasis was placed on demonstrating how project results can support the transformation of existing spaces through sustainable design, bio-based materials and circular approaches.

The section with the title "Sustainable innovation in livable cities" on the 22nd October 2026 included presentations about the DECORATOR and PilotInnCities projects that contributed to the development of smart city innovations in the Danube Strategy Region. The event also provided practical guidance for STEM education because the example of innovative training methodology was presented by KOLLABOR initiative from Békéscsaba.

The Hungarian pilot action of the DECORATOR project was presented as practical example of DECORATOR Solution 4 – "Greener Ways to Use Building Spaces" because it demonstrated how an underutilized space can be repurposed into a multifunctional environment that combines educational functions with business development while promoting circular design principles, sustainable materials and New European Bauhaus values. The example illustrated the project's approach to rethinking and revitalizing existing spaces rather than creating new ones.

The presentations resulted in active discussion with the audience and therefore the event provided contribution to the follow-up actions after the DECORATOR project.
