Project Partners Take the Next Step Towards a Joint Monitoring System for Danube Sturgeons

This week, project partners, experts, and stakeholders from across the Danube River Basin met in Vienna for the MonStur in the Danube project.

The meeting marked an important milestone in the project's first year, providing an opportunity to review progress, strengthen cooperation and advance the development of the Joint Monitoring System for Danube sturgeons.

During the 2nd Expert Workshop, participants exchanged knowledge and explored practical approaches for:
➡️ integrating data from multiple sources and institutions;
➡️ improving data analysis and interpretation;
➡️ applying side-scan sonar and other sonar techniques for habitat assessment;
➡️ advancing telemetry monitoring and environmental DNA (eDNA) applications;
➡️ harmonising monitoring methodologies across countries;
➡️ ensuring that monitoring results effectively support evidence-based conservation and management across borders.

Are you involved in sturgeon research, monitoring or data collection?
We welcome opportunities to collaborate and strengthen the Joint Monitoring System together.

Every dataset collected, shared and integrated brings us one step closer to a better understanding of Danube sturgeon populations and to more coordinated conservation efforts.
