Bulgaria Economic Forum organised a national capacity-building workshop under NONA in Haskovo

On 19 June 2026, project partner Bulgaria Economic Forum (BEF) organised a national capacity-building seminar in Haskovo, within the framework of the NONA. The seminar brought together representatives of municipalities, municipal enterprises, business organisations, and other local stakeholders engaged in sustainable urban development and the regeneration of degraded urban areas.

Participants were introduced to the objectives, activities, and expected results of the NONA project, with particular attention paid to the need for innovative governance models for underused and degraded urban areas, as well as to opportunities for transforming such areas into places of economic, social, and community value.

The seminar also provided an opportunity to learn about good practices from NONA project partner countries and to discuss the role of local authorities, businesses, and civil society organisations in urban regeneration processes. A dedicated discussion session addressed specific challenges and opportunities facing Haskovo Municipality regarding the future development and effective utilisation of degraded urban and industrial areas.

The second part of the event took place as a working dinner, providing space for participants to exchange views on attracting investments to degraded urban and industrial sites. Discussions covered potential financing models, public-private partnerships, and mechanisms for actively involving local stakeholders in urban regeneration initiatives.

Through this national capacity-building seminar, project partner BEF contributed to raising awareness of the NONA project objectives and encouraged ongoing dialogue among local institutions, businesses, and civil society representatives on sustainable urban development and the revitalisation of neglected spaces.

The NONA – New governance for new spaces project is implemented with the financial support of the Interreg Danube Region Programme 2021 to 2027, co-funded by the European Union.
