From Veszprém to Vienna: a study visit to Aspern Seestadt
As part of the NONA project's capacity-building activities, project partner the City of Veszprém, organised a study visit to Aspern Seestadt in Vienna, Austria, one of Europe's most ambitious examples of sustainable, future-oriented urban development.
The Veszprém delegation travelled to the district to see first-hand how a modern urban area can be planned in a human-centred, environmentally conscious and genuinely long-term way. The visit offered a close look at the thinking behind one of the continent's largest urban development projects, and at the practical solutions that make it work day to day.
Several aspects of the district proved especially inspiring: a city structure built around public transport, designed to keep mobility sustainable from the outset, consciously created green spaces woven through the urban fabric, a harmonious balance between liveable public spaces and a modern living environment
For the Veszprém team, the value of the visit lay not only in what they saw, but in what they could bring home. The good practices gathered in Aspern Seestadt offer concrete ideas to examine and adapt for the city's own future development, helping turn shared knowledge into real value for the local community.
The City of Veszprém warmly thanks its hosts for the professional reception and the valuable exchange of experience, which reflect the spirit of collaboration at the heart of NONA's work on new governance for new spaces.
The study-visit took place beginning of May 2026.
