Energy Communities, Storage, and Photovoltaics – Key Insights from NRGCOM Seminar for Professionals
The latest advancements in energy storage and photovoltaic technologies took center stage at the Energy Storage and Photovoltaics from A to Z seminar, a collaborative effort between JAIP and AKU-BAT, organized as part of the international NRGCOM project. Hosted at the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT), the event brought together industry experts, policymakers, and professionals to discuss legislative frameworks, technological advancements, and the future of energy communities.
The seminar featured a diverse lineup of speakers who addressed the latest trends and developments in the sector. Jan Fousek (AKU-BAT) and Vojtěch Krajíček (DOUCHA ŠIKOLA Advokáti) provided an overview of legislative frameworks governing energy storage and photovoltaic deployment. Topics included the impact of LEX OZE III, new permitting processes, and regulatory advancements aimed at accelerating the adoption of renewable energy solutions. Jiří Bím (Solar Association) outlined the updated regulatory pathways for photovoltaic power plants, highlighting the role of Jednotné environmentální stanovisko (JES) and the implications of new zoning laws. Radim Gabriš (Fenix Trading) explored battery storage solutions for industrial applications, detailing strategies for peak shaving, power quality stabilization, and flexible grid integration to support energy communities.
Petr Gaman (FLOWBOX) emphasized the importance of energy intelligence, showcasing innovative energy management systems that help businesses and municipalities optimize energy consumption and reduce costs by up to 50%. Jan Hicl (Delta Green) presented innovative models for integrating households into grid-balancing mechanisms, demonstrating how demand-side flexibility can reduce energy costs and enhance grid stability. Jakub Hrbek (State Environmental Fund) provided insights into financial support mechanisms, including grants for battery storage and photovoltaic installations under national and EU-backed programs. Pavel Hrzina (ČVUT) discussed best practices for fire safety, toxicological risks, and regulatory compliance in battery storage installations, ensuring secure operation of energy systems in residential and commercial settings.
Tomáš Mužík (Nano Energies) detailed how battery storage can be integrated into aggregation networks to provide grid balancing services, increase financial returns, and improve overall energy market efficiency. Svatomír Rafaj (SOLIDSUN) explained the necessary steps for applying for photovoltaic connection agreements, including project documentation requirements and compliance with distribution network regulations. Dušan Tejkal (RESACS) shared practical insights into battery storage implementation, emphasizing cost-effectiveness, safety considerations, and technological advancements. Ondřej Tomšej (Ministry of Industry and Trade) provided an update on national support schemes for photovoltaic systems with and without battery storage, highlighting upcoming funding opportunities and regulatory changes.
Michael Novotná, Director of JAIP, emphasized the importance of the event’s focus: "The primary goal of this seminar was to provide a detailed understanding of the technical aspects of electricity sharing based on the new legislation and current state-of-the-art technology. A special thank you goes to the AKU-BAT Association for their invaluable contribution to the preparation of the expert content, ensuring the highest level of professional discussion."
The event successfully brought together stakeholders from various sectors, including public institutions, municipalities, private businesses, and academia. Discussions emphasized the role of energy storage in stabilizing grids, increasing self-sufficiency, and supporting the transition to clean energy. The NRGCOM project continues to drive innovation in energy communities across the Danube region by promoting cross-border knowledge exchange, policy recommendations, and practical implementation of renewable energy solutions.
