NRGCOM Recognised as a Danube Region Flagship Project
The NRGCOM project has been officially recognised as a Danube Region Flagship Project under Priority Area 2 – Sustainable Energy, marking a major milestone for the consortium and its work to support renewable energy communities across the Danube Region.
The Flagship status is awarded to projects that make a significant contribution to the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), demonstrate strong macro-regional relevance, and deliver tangible benefits through transnational cooperation. Being selected as a Flagship highlights NRGCOM’s strategic importance, visibility, and impact at both regional and European levels.
NRGCOM focuses on creating appropriate operational conditions for renewable energy communities (RECs) by addressing legal, technical, economic, and social barriers that often hinder their development. Through close cooperation among 13 partner organisations from 12 countries, the project combines policy analysis, awareness-raising activities, pilot actions, and methodological tools to support the establishment and long-term sustainability of energy communities.

The Flagship recognition confirms that NRGCOM’s approach effectively supports the objectives of the EUSDR by strengthening energy security, promoting the use of renewable energy sources, and empowering local communities to actively participate in the green transition.
As a Danube Region Flagship Project, NRGCOM contributes to increasing the visibility of sustainable energy initiatives and showcases how coordinated action across borders can deliver meaningful results. The status also reinforces cooperation between project partners, national authorities, and regional stakeholders, supporting knowledge exchange and replication of good practices.
The official Flagship certificate was awarded in July 2025, underlining the project’s relevance for Priority Area 2 – Sustainable Energy and its contribution to improving the quality of life and energy resilience in the Danube Region.
With this recognition, NRGCOM enters its final project phase with strengthened visibility and momentum. Ongoing pilot activities, technological assessments, and policy-oriented outputs will feed into the project’s final recommendations and White Paper, supporting the further development of renewable energy communities beyond the project’s lifetime.
NRGCOM will continue working closely with stakeholders across the Danube Region to ensure that its results contribute to long-term, sustainable energy solutions and to the successful implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.
