Highlight of the Month – When a Good Story Travels Further
A pilot does not become visible simply because it has been implemented. It becomes visible when people can understand it, recognise themselves in it and feel why it matters. This is exactly what Chișinău City Hall achieved through the story of its urban pilot in the Old Zone of Chișinău.
Instead of presenting the pilot as a sequence of activities, outputs and figures, the story brought forward the people who give the route its meaning: local artisans, cooks, cultural storytellers and residents. It showed a city being rediscovered through experiences already rooted in the neighbourhood — including the memorable voice of a participant who discovered an extraordinary ceramics workshop only three streets from where he had grown up.
The communication travelled far beyond the project’s own channels. After appearing on the People Powered Tourism website and social media, the story was picked up by the Danube Region Programme and further amplified by EUSDR Priority Area 3 – Culture & Tourism. For a partner pilot to receive recognition at both programme and macro-regional level is more than an additional share: it is a clear sign that the story carried relevance far beyond one city and one project.
This success reminds us of a simple communication truth: statistics demonstrate progress, but stories make people care about it.
A well-told story can sometimes travel further than a hundred statistical reports because it gives figures a face, activities a meaning and project results a place in people’s imagination.
For this reason, Chișinău City Hall’s urban pilot communication has been selected as our Highlight of the Month. It is an example for the entire partnership of how thoughtful storytelling can become part of project impact itself — strengthening visibility, local pride and transnational recognition.
The Old Zone of Chișinău had always carried remarkable stories. By telling one of them exceptionally well, our partner made the Danube Region stop and listen.
