Eagle on the Danube: The Legions of Moesia
The 20th anniversary edition of the ancient heritage festival Eagle on the Danube: The Legions of Moesia took place from 5th to 7th June 2026 in Bulgaria’s Pleven region. Activities were held at three important Roman sites: Ad Putea near the village of Riben, locations in Pleven connected with the ancient fortress of Storgosia, and Ulpia Oescus near the village of Gigen.
The event is organized by the Council of Tourim – Svishotv, which are an ASP to BELENE.
The main purpose of the festival was to bring the region’s Roman history to life and promote its cultural heritage and historical tourism. The program included historical reenactments, Roman military demonstrations, parades, crafts, workshops, rituals and gladiator games. The event was intended for the general public, including local residents, tourists, history enthusiasts, families and children. Its accessible and interactive activities allowed visitors of different ages to learn about the ancient past in an engaging way.
