National Networking and Expert Meeting in Bulgaria
An expert meeting under the ROMAN LEGACY project was held on 31 October at the Regional Historical Museum in Ruse, organized by ADRM, BATTI and the Municipality of Belene. The event gathered representatives of museums, municipalities, universities, tourism organizations and local community groups from the Bulgarian Danube region.
The main focus of the meeting was to lay the foundations for selecting which heritage sites could be included in the future cultural route dedicated to Roman heritage along the Danube. Participants discussed key criteria such as historical importance, accessibility, state of preservation, opportunities for storytelling, and the role of local communities in maintaining and presenting the sites. A proposal was made to develop a structured and transparent application process for interested municipalities and institutions. The fortress Kale Shirokovo was introduced as an example of a site with strong heritage value and active community engagement.
Additionally, the Participants participated in an interactive session about joint branding. The symbol of the bridge was highlighted as representing both physical and cultural connection across the region.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue cooperation in shaping the cultural route and strengthening regional identity.
