Roman Days on the River Drava
Held on 23 May 2026 in Osijek, Roman Days on the Drava invited visitors to step into the world of the Late Roman Empire through a unique living history programme on the banks of the Drava River. Throughout the day, from 12:00 to 20:00, the event brought the Roman frontier back to life with authentic historical reenactments, educational workshops and interactive experiences for all generations.
Visitors had the opportunity to explore a Late Roman military camp, meet Roman legionaries, and learn about the daily lives of soldiers stationed along the Danube frontier nearly 1,700 years ago. The programme included demonstrations of Roman military formations, archery, and the use of ancient weapons, as well as presentations of Roman medicine and cuisine.
A special focus was placed on Legio VI Herculia, a military unit founded by Emperor Diocletian and stationed in the region of present-day Slavonia and Baranja. Through hands-on activities and expert interpretations, the event highlighted the rich Roman heritage of eastern Croatia and offered an engaging journey into the past for visitors of all ages.
