Final Conference of #RomansWineDanube in Ljubuški
The #RomansWineDanube project reached an important milestone with its final conference “Connecting Heritage and Future”, held on 18 June in Ljubuški, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bringing together project partners, stakeholders, tourism experts, and representatives of related initiatives, the event celebrated the achievements of the project and reflected on the future of sustainable cultural tourism development along the Roman Emperors and Danube Wine Route.
Hosted by the Office for European Integration of the Government of West Herzegovina Canton, the final conference opened with welcome addresses highlighting the importance of cross-border cooperation, heritage-based tourism, and the shared efforts of partners from across the Danube region.
Throughout the day, partners presented the key results developed during the project, including the integrated destination management framework: Product Clubs, Local Action Plans, Local Tourism Observatories, joint branding and marketing activities, capacity-building actions, and innovative approaches developed to strengthen sustainable tourism.
The conference also highlighted the human side of the project journey: the partnerships built, knowledge exchanged, and the shared commitment to creating a more connected and sustainable cultural tourism destination. Discussions focused on the future of the Route, the importance of transferring knowledge, and how the project results can continue creating impact beyond the project lifetime.
A special moment of the event was the signature of the Letter of Sustainability by project partners, reaffirming the commitment to continue cooperation and build on the achievements of #RomansWineDanube.
The programme continued with a keynote lecture by Nedo Pinezić on transforming local authenticity into a global tourism brand, followed by a discussion with experts from different European initiatives on the role of transnational networks in connecting heritage with future opportunities.
The final conference concluded with a guided cultural programme, including visits to Museum Humac and Gallery “Mother”, followed by a journey through the local wine heritage. The following day, participants explored the region through a “Green Itinerary”, visiting the Kravica Waterfalls, the Roman Military Camp Gračine, and local wineries, experiencing first-hand the combination of natural, cultural, and gastronomic heritage that defines the Route.
While the #RomansWineDanube project is coming to an end, the cooperation, tools, and connections created throughout the project will continue to support the development of sustainable tourism and cultural exchange along the Route.
