Where Wine Meets History: Trnjak Fest 2025 Connects Communities and Cultures

From 26 to 28 June 2025, the charming town of Ljubuški and its surroundings came alive with the vibrant spirit of Trnjak Fest — a unique three-day celebration dedicated to the indigenous Trnjak grape. But this year, the festival went beyond just wine. It wove together the rich tapestry of the region’s Roman heritage and cultural traditions, creating an unforgettable experience that stirred both the senses and the soul.

The festivities kicked off with an immersive journey Tracing Roman Heritage. Enthusiasts and curious visitors embarked on a guided tour of iconic Roman sites, including Villa Rustica Mogorjelo, the Narona Archaeological Museum, and the Gračine Archaeological Centre. This fascinating exploration was complemented by expert talks on Roman wine-making traditions and ancient gastronomy — a rare chance to taste dishes inspired by authentic Roman recipes that transported guests back in time.

The excitement continued on the second day with a special wine tour tailored for bloggers and media professionals. They ventured through picturesque vineyards in Čapljina, Vrgorac, and Imotski, finishing with a delightful dinner where Trnjak wines paired perfectly with local culinary delights, showcasing the true essence of the region’s flavors.

On the final day, experts shared deep insights into the Trnjak variety, followed by an interactive tasting workshop, Trnjak – Harvest 2023. As evening fell, the heart of Ljubuški’s City Park turned into a lively hub, buzzing with wine lovers savoring Trnjak wines from various Herzegovinian and Dalmatian wineries, all while enjoying authentic local cuisine and the warm company of fellow enthusiasts.

More than just a festival, Trnjak Fest 2025 became a celebration of community — where stories were shared, friendships forged, and a collective identity strengthened. Through heartfelt conversations and joyful gatherings, the event highlighted how wine, culture, and history intertwine to unite people across borders.
