International meeting of the SAFETY4TMF project in Stráž pod Ralskem 🇨🇿

On October 8, 2025, an international meeting of the SAFETY4TMF project partners took place in Stráž pod Ralskem, hosted by DIAMO, s. p. – the state enterprise responsible for remediation of uranium mining sites and safe management of tailings ponds.

Participants from several European countries learned about the history and technical parameters of the local tailings pond, its water management and Technical Safety Supervision System (TBD), as well as plans for its gradual closure and reclamation.

Expert presentations were delivered by DIAMO representatives and Ing. Petr Smrž, Director of TBD – Vodní stavby, a. s.

The meeting was also attended by Czech stakeholders including Ms. Machátová from the Ministry of the Environment, representatives of neighboring municipalities and Orlen Unipetrol.

The expert discussion that followed provided a valuable exchange of international experience in safe tailings management and monitoring.

Some participants also joined the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic conference on October 9, focusing on architecture and post-disaster restoration, naturally linking to the SAFETY4TMF themes of safety, prevention, and recovery.

The Stráž pod Ralskem meeting significantly contributed to strengthening international cooperation and advancing safe and sustainable tailings management in Europe. 🌍
