SMEnergy Project Engages Slovenian SMEs in Renewable Energy Discussions

As part of the SMEnergy project, the Local Energy Agency Spodnje Podravje (LEASP) recently visited small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Ptuj area to discuss the potential of solar power and the adoption of renewable energy sources. These visits aimed to support local businesses in improving energy efficiency and exploring sustainable energy solutions.

The visits involved LEASP and three local SMEs specialising in CNC production, metallurgy, and electrical installations. During discussions about their use of renewable energy, the focus was on how these companies, which already have solar panels installed on their roofs, can further integrate renewable energy solutions into their operations. While all three companies have made significant progress with solar panel installations, there remains untapped potential for increasing energy efficiency and maximising the benefits of solar power.

The visits, which took place in November 2024, marked an important step in the ongoing efforts to help SMEs transition to sustainable energy sources.

The LEASP team interviewed company representatives to learn about their current energy practices and explore opportunities for reducing costs and environmental impact through solar power. Based on these discussions, they provided tailored advice on energy efficiency improvements and practical steps for adopting renewable energy technologies.

The on-site visits to the companies’ facilities in Ptuj and the surrounding region provided valuable insights into the specific energy needs and challenges faced by each business.

The companies expressed a strong interest in deepening their commitment to sustainability, keen to explore ways to reduce energy costs, enhance environmental responsibility, and contribute to the region’s energy transition. Discussions included practical steps for integrating renewable energy into operations, such as expanding solar installations and adopting energy-saving technologies in production processes. By implementing energy-efficient practices, these SMEs can not only reduce operational costs but also boost competitiveness and attract environmentally conscious customers.

The SMEnergy project is designed to support SMEs in adopting renewable energy solutions, helping them lower energy costs, improve efficiency, and contribute to environmental sustainability. These visits play a key role in empowering local businesses and promoting the use of clean, renewable energy in the region.

The visits were highly productive, with both LEASP and the company representatives expressing satisfaction with the discussions. The parties look forward to continuing collaboration and supporting these businesses in their journey towards greater energy efficiency and sustainability.
