Spongecity in Koprivnica
The Mayor of Koprivnica, Mišel Jakšić, along with his associates, visited the Koprivnica wastewater treatment plant, where construction has begun on a rain garden as part of the SpongeCity project. The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacity to cope with climate change in the Danube region. The project focuses on stormwater management in urban areas through retention, improved soil infiltration, and prevention of urban flooding. By implementing innovative solutions such as green roofs, permeable surfaces, and rainwater harvesting systems, the project seeks to reduce flood risk and enhance the quality of life for citizens.
The construction and testing of the rain garden at the wastewater treatment plant in Koprivnica wastewater treatment planti is currently underway, and the results will provide insight into how such a garden can be implemented in an urban environment, such as the city center.
Information about the project was presented to the mayor and his team by one of the project leaders Igor Horvat. The mayor gave his full support to the project.
