Career and Guidance Centre in Slezská Ostrava: A Place Where New Beginnings Take Shape
Chaning jobs, returning to the labour market, or searching for a new career path are life situations that often bring uncertainty and concern. That is exactly why the Career and Guidance Centre in Slezská Ostrava was established: a safe and welcoming space where people can find support, practical advice, and the motivation to take the next step forward.
Please find our first good practices:
Since opening its doors, the centre has already supported 30 clients from a wide range of age groups and professional backgrounds. Among them are graduates looking for their first job, parents returning to work after parental leave, people re-entering the labour market after a longer absence, and individuals who, after many years in the same position, feel it is time for a new professional challenge.
Each client brings a unique story. Some need help preparing a CV, others are looking for the confidence to approach new employers, while many are simply trying to navigate the opportunities available in today's rapidly evolving world of work. The common goal is to find a path that reflects each individual's skills, experience, and personal circumstances.
"Every client comes with a different life and professional background. Together, we explore practical next steps while respecting their experience, current situation, and aspirations. We are especially pleased that one of our clients will soon take up a job opportunity directly within the Municipal District Office of Slezská Ostrava. It is a clear example of how even a first conversation can open the door to a new professional opportunity," says career counsellor Miroslava Michálková Šálková.
When Support Helps Change Lives
Today, many people are looking for more than just a job. They are seeking confidence, direction, and belief in their own abilities. Career guidance is therefore not only about job vacancies or CV writing. Above all, it is about people.
The centre helps clients identify their strengths, discover new career opportunities, and prepare for changes in a labour market that continues to evolve. Personalised support, respect, and a welcoming atmosphere are at the heart of the centre's approach, ensuring that clients feel comfortable discussing both their ambitions and their concerns about the future.
Creating Opportunities to Connect and Learn
The centre's activities go far beyond individual consultations. We are currently preparing a wide range of events for local residents and the wider community, designed to respond to real needs identified through our daily work with clients.
One of the upcoming initiatives is "Coffee with a Counsellor", an informal gathering where participants can talk openly about career development, education, employment opportunities, and personal goals in a relaxed and friendly environment. Sometimes all it takes is a conversation over a cup of coffee to inspire an important life decision.
We are also developing a series of tailor-made workshops based on the needs and challenges identified by our clients. Planned topics include CV and cover letter writing, using artificial intelligence in job searching, interview preparation, discovering personal strengths, coping with uncertainty during career transitions, and taking the first steps toward entrepreneurship.
Our ambition is to create more than a counselling office. We aim to build a community space where people can learn, share experiences, gain new skills, and strengthen their confidence to face future challenges.
Investing in People Means Investing in the Future of the Region
The Career and Guidance Centre in Slezská Ostrava is not focused solely on helping people find employment. Its mission is to support active, confident, and resilient citizens who are prepared to use their potential and adapt to the changing demands of the modern workplace.
At a time when lifelong learning is becoming increasingly important and career paths are less predictable than ever before, services like these provide valuable support not only for individuals but also for the wider community and regional development.
Because a career is about more than work. It is about self-confidence, new opportunities, and the courage to start again. And sometimes, a single conversation is all it takes to open the door to a new future.
