Regional Action Plans Completed
The 11 Regional Action Plans (RAPs) for the Danube Wood(s) Route have been successfully completed and are now available on the project website in the Results section. Developed by project partners in close collaboration with regional stakeholders, the RAPs break down the common transnational strategy into region-specific priorities, identifying key sites, cultural treasures, and actions to promote sustainable use of forests and woodworking heritage along the Danube.
The finalized RAPs cover Germany, Pilsen Region (Czechia), Slovakia, Hungary, Gorenjska (Slovenia), Gorski Kotar (Croatia), Canton Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Zlatibor Region (Serbia), Montenegro, Romania, and Varna Region (Bulgaria). Each plan includes concrete measures to enhance eco-tourism, support local artisans, restore and protect forest habitats, and involve vulnerable groups such as migrants, youth, and elderly communities as potential employees and contributors along the route. By connecting local traditions with sustainable development goals, the RAPs provide a blueprint for preserving both natural and cultural heritage.
These action plans are more than a set of recommendations—they are living documents that will guide the implementation of the Danube Wood(s) Route for years to come. They serve as a tool for regional actors, cultural institutions, and tourism operators to collaborate and create authentic experiences that showcase the unique wood heritage of each region. As the project continues, the RAPs may be periodically updated based on pilot actions, lessons learned, and evolving needs, ensuring the long-term sustainability and visibility of the transnational cultural route.
