Project in Motion: Highlights from Danube Wood(s) Route Partner Activities

As part of the ongoing efforts within the Danube Wood(s) Route project, partners have actively engaged in a series of events and stakeholder activities over the past period.

Fabunio organized a stakeholder meeting on December 12th in Budapest, bringing together around 60 participants, including colleagues from STRIA. Additional meetings are planned in the coming period.

The Danube Wood(s) Route project was presented to the audience during a conference held in Varna, Bulgaria, on February 21, 2025, marking the celebration of International Tourist Guide Day. The event was organized by VEDA in cooperation with the Union of Tourist Guides in Bulgaria, offering a valuable opportunity to introduce the project to tourism professionals and highlight its goals.

On 21.11.2024. on Bjelašnica mountain, representatives of SERDA attended the workshop and presentation of the "Umolja socks" program within the "Most Beautiful Villages of BiH" initiative implemented by the "Studeni Potok" Association.

The "Umolja socks" program is based on the idea of protecting and promoting the authentic traditional product of the Umoljani mountain village and its adaptation for use in the field of modern tourism, the development of tourist products, and the socio-economic empowerment of women who knit "Umolja socks". The Rural Route Bjelašnica program and the Association's plans for the development of sustainable rural tourism in the area of the Bjelašnica, Igman, Treskavica and Visočica mountains were presented to the participants.

Since the workshop participants were at the same time an interest group of the "Danube Wood(s) Route" project (representatives of local communities, tourist guides, associations dealing with the development and promotion of rural tourism...) the event was used to present Project and discuss the possibilities joint cooperation, implementation of subsequent activities.

On June 26, 2024. in the premises of the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas in Sarajevo, a meeting was held with the aim of presenting the Danube Wood(s) Route project, which SERDA is implementing in partnership within the Danube Transnational Program.

The meeting was attended by representatives of CPI for Protected Natural Areas: deputy director Harita Čolaković, graduate engineer in forestry, Naida Gušević Expert associate for forestry, Denisa Dedić Professional consultant for biodiversity and sustainable development and Saneta Trnka, project manager from SERDA. At the meeting, they discussed the project's activities and considered the possibility of involving the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas in the implementation of activities in the upcoming period, especially in the part of preparing the joint Danube strategy and Action plans.
