🏺 Discovering Thracian Heritage Through Traditional Crafts in Vratsa

✨ DanubeCrafts brings ancient traditions to life through creative workshops, cultural exchange and regional cooperation.

📅 On 11 September 2026, the Chamber hosted the third Regional Working Group (RWG) meeting at the Ethnographic and Revival Complex “St. Sofronii Vrachanski” in Vratsa. 🏛️

🤝 The meeting focused on the progress of the DanubeCrafts project, the future development of the Craft Development Centre in Vratsa, and the activities planned under the Regional Action Plan. Participants also exchanged ideas on how traditional crafts can become an even more valuable part of the local tourism offer, while preserving the region’s cultural identity and supporting sustainable development. 🌿

🎨 Bringing Ancient Traditions to Life

In cooperation with the Regional History Museum in Vratsa, the Chamber organised three creative workshops inspired by the rich heritage of ancient Thrace. Through hands-on activities, participants explored traditional techniques, archaeological discoveries and the artistic legacy of the region. ✨

🖋️ Tattoos of the Ancient Thracians

Participants discovered characteristic Thracian motifs and symbols, using ancient designs as inspiration to create their own artistic interpretations. 🎨

🏛️ Building Models of Thracian Tombs

Participants explored ancient burial architecture and created clay models inspired by archaeological examples, discovering more about the fascinating world of Thracian history. 🏺

👐 Clay Figures and Vessels Before the Potter’s Wheel

By shaping clay figures and vessels by hand, participants experienced early pottery techniques and learned how people created ceramic objects before the potter’s wheel was introduced. 🏺

🌿 Preserving Heritage Through Creativity and Cooperation

The workshops combined cultural learning, creativity and traditional craftsmanship, offering participants an engaging way to connect with the history and traditions of the Vratsa region. 💛

🤝 Beyond the creative activities, the RWG meeting strengthened cooperation among local stakeholders and supported the continued development of traditional crafts as an important part of the region’s tourism offer.

🌍 Through initiatives like these, DanubeCrafts helps keep traditional skills alive, connect communities with their heritage and create new opportunities for crafts across the Danube Region. 💚
