🍷 Spotlight on Living Heritage: Artisanal Winemaking at the Author’s Wine Festival

From 4 to 6 September 2026, the historic courtyard of the National Museum of History of Moldova in Chișinău hosted the Author’s Wine Festival, a celebration of artisanal winemaking and Moldova’s viticultural heritage. 🍇🏛️

As part of its efforts to map, preserve and promote living traditions along the Traditional Crafts Route, the DanubeCrafts project team from “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University of Chișinău took part in the event to explore small-scale production and its potential for cultural tourism. 🗺️

During the festival, the team:

📝 Documented traditional winemaking: focusing on non-industrial practices and heritage grape varieties such as Fetească Neagră, Rară Neagră, Viorica and Codrinskii.

🏡 Met family wineries: including Domeniile Pană, Suvac Winery, Bahu Winery and Crama Mircești, which preserve Moldova’s viticultural heritage.

✨ Identified new opportunities: local micro-wineries and potential craft experiences that could be integrated into the future Traditional Crafts Route.

The festival brought together more than 40 independent small wineries, giving visitors the chance to discover limited-edition wines and talk directly with winemakers about production methods, harvest traditions and micro-vinification techniques. 🥂

Unlike mass-produced wine, author’s wine reflects small-scale, handcrafted production, where each bottle represents the knowledge, creativity and personal approach of its maker. 💛🌍
