The Career Center in Slezská Ostrava will help people get back on their feet
Looking for a job, changing career paths, or returning to the job market after a long break can be challenging for many people.
The Career and Counseling Center in Slezská Ostrava, which opened in early June, aims to provide assistance with exactly that.
This new, free service was created to help people who are looking for a new job, want to change careers, are facing difficult life circumstances, or need to rebuild their self-confidence and sense of security as they return to the workforce. “The center will be open to school graduates, parents returning from parental leave, people who have been unemployed for a long time, and those seeking a new career path or the courage to make a change,” says Richard Vereš, mayor of Slezská Ostrava.
The center employs two career counselors and one social services counselor, who provide clients with individualized support based on their personal and professional circumstances. The team of three experienced counselors places particular emphasis on an individualized and respectful approach, open communication, and finding solutions tailored to each client’s specific life situation. “Career counseling today is no longer just about finding a job. We often see people who have lost their sense of direction, don’t know what options they have, or need support during times of change. Sometimes we work on resumes and interview preparation; other times, we help people rediscover their own strengths and find a direction to move forward,” says a representative of the career center.
Attention is also being paid to the accessibility of services for parents with children. “For those interested, we have a children’s play area available on our premises, which allows parents to attend consultations in a calm and safe environment. We want people to know they don’t have to go through this alone,” the counselors add. Furthermore, the center plans to collaborate with employers, industry experts, and public institutions in the future to gradually create space for modern community and counseling services in the region.
According to the municipal district’s leadership, the new counseling center is intended to help not only the unemployed, but also those who find themselves at a career crossroads or need support during a major life change. “I’m glad we’re succeeding in creating a space where people can receive not only professional help, but also support and motivation as they seek a new career path. Cooperation with the Department of Social Affairs is also very important; its staff will provide clients with information about career counseling if they are interested in finding a job or changing careers. I consider this individual and human approach to be one of the greatest values of this service,” says Deputy Mayor Kateřina Krenželoková.
