From Municipal Misdemeanour Court to Green Skills Co-Working Hub

Renovation works are currently underway in the former premises of the Municipal Misdemeanour Court in Kakanj, transforming the location into a space with an entirely new purpose. The former administrative facility is being converted into a modern Green Skills Co-Working Hub – a place for collaboration, learning, networking, and the development of new ideas for the citizens of Kakanj.

The renovation is being carried out within the SteelCityZen Project, implemented by the Kakanj Municipality together with partners from several European countries under the Interreg Danube Region Programme. The project's objective is to support cities in their green and digital transition by developing new skills, strengthening entrepreneurship, and improving local labour markets.

The new co-working space will be available to young people, freelancers, entrepreneurs, craftspeople, students, representatives of civil society organisations, and all citizens interested in learning, networking, collaborating, and developing their ideas. Equipped with modern furniture and digital infrastructure, the Hub will host training sessions, workshops, meetings, presentations, and other activities focused on building green and digital skills.

A key value of the project lies in giving a neglected public building a new purpose for the benefit of the community. A space that once served judicial proceedings will soon become an open and inspiring environment where innovation, knowledge exchange, entrepreneurship, and professional development can flourish.

Once the renovation works are completed, the premises will be furnished with modern equipment and officially opened to users. The Green Skills Co-Working Hub is expected to become one of Kakanj's key venues for connecting education, business, and the local community, while supporting skills development and improving employability.

Through this initiative, the Municipality of Kakanj continues to invest in creating a more innovative, sustainable, and business-friendly environment, reaffirming its commitment to local development and providing new opportunities for current and future generations.
