Council of Europe Best Practices Awards highlight DRP projects

#RomansWineDanube and DTP Iron-Age-Danube projects receive prestigious awards at the ceremony in Budapest, Hungary.

On September 27, 2024, the "Best Practices of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe" were awarded during the closing ceremony of the 13th Annual Advisory Forum held in Budapest, Hungary. The event, highlighting excellence in the promotion of European cultural heritage, recognised two Interreg Danube projects.

The prestigious Best Practices Award was granted to 6 Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe that have made outstanding contributions through innovative approaches to cultural heritage preservation and promotion. The awards were presented by Mr. Sergio Ortega Munoz, Vice-Chair of the EPA Governing Board, and Mrs. Meltem ÖnhoN, Chair of the EPA Governing Board.

Recognition for Danube Region cultural routes

Among the awardees were the Roman Emperors and Danube Wine Route and the Iron Age Danube Route, both developed as part of the Interreg Danube projects. The Danube Wine Route encompasses the regions where wine was first introduced during Roman times and where the tradition of wine production still thrives today. It is currently implementing the #RomansWineDanube project. The Iron Age Danube Route links the most important monuments from the Iron Age across the Danube region and resulted from the Iron-Age-Danube project, which took place between 2017 and 2019.

Dr. Karin Drda-Kühn, project manager at media k GmbH involved in the #RomansWineDanube project highlighted the significance of the award:

"This award reflects the hard work and dedication of all partners involved in the #RomansWineDanube project. The analysis carried out under this initiative emphasizes the rich heritage shared across the regions and reinforces the role of the Danube as a vital cultural connector. Our collaboration aims to strengthen and further develop a cultural route that celebrates both Roman heritage and regional wines, offering unique experiences that resonate with visitors."
