Mödling AVIATOR Workshop 1 - Raptor Disease Diagnostics and Surveillance
🦅 Within the AVIATOR project, a two-day project workshop was held in Mödling, Austria, on 19-20 March 2026, organized by project partner – the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety, on the topic “Diagnostics and Surveillance of Diseases in Birds of Prey.” The workshop also included presentations of selected project activities and their implementation.
The aim of the workshop was to exchange expertise in molecular diagnostics, surveillance, and methodological approaches related to infectious diseases in birds of prey and other bird species, as well as mosquitoes as vectors, while fostering professional exchange among participants.
The first day included presentations on topics such as monitoring avian influenza and West Nile virus in Austria and Slovenia, research on infectious agents, diseases and mortality in birds of prey, as well as transmission vectors, and ongoing research activities related to vector-borne diseases and mosquito surveillance as carriers of arboviruses, with a particular focus on bird populations.
The second day of the workshop included a visit to the agency’s molecular research department, as well as presentations by project partners on the identification of infectious diseases in birds of prey and examples of good practice.
