Assess Climate Readiness with the Be Ready S&T Readiness Tool
Planning effective climate adaptation measures requires more than good ideas—it requires understanding whether solutions are technically feasible, socially accepted, and ready for implementation. To support this process, the Be Ready project has developed the Climate Sandbox Technological and Societal Readiness Tool (CSTSRT), an innovative self-assessment resource designed to help cities and organizations strengthen their preparedness for Urban Heat Island (UHI) mitigation.
The S&T Readiness Tool guides users through the key stages of planning, implementation, evaluation, and long-term sustainability of climate adaptation initiatives. Using a structured set of questions, it helps public authorities, businesses, civil society organizations, and policymakers assess the societal and technological readiness of their proposed interventions while considering legal, ethical, financial, and stakeholder engagement aspects.
The tool is available in four tailored versions—for public authorities, businesses, civil society organizations, and those developing UHI policies and strategies. Each version includes an automated scoring system that generates a readiness score and a customized to-do list, enabling users to identify gaps and improve their projects before implementation. It is complemented by practical examples and good practices from the Be Ready project and beyond, making it a valuable resource for anyone working on climate resilience.
Designed as an easy-to-use, offline Excel-based resource, the S&T Readiness Tool requires no registration and is freely available for download. By combining technical assessment with societal considerations, it supports better-informed decision-making and helps ensure that climate adaptation measures are effective, inclusive, and sustainable.
