Be Ready Multiplier Event in Vienna Explores the Link Between Urban Heat Mitigation and Water Circularity

The Be Ready Multiplier Event, hosted by BOKU University in Vienna, brought together experts, practitioners, researchers, and public authorities to discuss integrated approaches for strengthening urban climate resilience.

The event was co-hosted with the DUT-FAIR project, led by BOKU University, which focuses on improving peri-urban water circularity through the development of innovative planning patterns. By combining the expertise of both projects, participants explored how water-sensitive urban planning can complement strategies for mitigating Urban Heat Islands (UHI) and contribute to more resilient and sustainable cities.

The programme also featured contributions from the Municipality of Weiz, which shared valuable experience gained through its participation in the Ready4Heat project. These practical insights highlighted the importance of integrating local knowledge and cross-project collaboration when addressing climate adaptation challenges.

The event attracted a broad and diverse audience, including representatives of local authorities, water and wastewater utilities, mountain risk management experts, industrial sectors, agricultural and forestry associations, and research organisations. This multidisciplinary participation fostered lively discussions on the connections between urban heat mitigation, water management, and sustainable spatial planning.

By bringing together stakeholders from different sectors, the multiplier event demonstrated the value of collaborative approaches in developing innovative solutions to climate challenges. The exchange of knowledge and experiences reinforced the importance of integrating water circularity into urban heat mitigation strategies, supporting the shared goal of creating healthier, cooler, and more climate-resilient communities across the Danube Region.
