Be Ready Partners Review Climate Shelter in Chișinău
As part of the Be Ready project, representatives from the Development Agency North (DAN) and the associated partner, Municipality of Varaždin, conducted a peer review visit to project partners in Chișinău, Moldova, on September 9–10. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the pilot initiative implemented within the project framework.
The Moldovan team’s pilot activity centres on the construction of a climate shelter for children on the premises of a local kindergarten. This initiative applies the concept of “white acupuncture” to mitigate the effects of climate change and reduce the urban heat island (UHI) effect. The shelter features a roof constructed from materials with enhanced resistance to UV rays and extreme temperatures. Its design also accommodates both educational and recreational activities for children.
The hosts offered a warm welcome and provided a comprehensive presentation of the project’s development—from site selection to the shelter’s design and final construction. The review team visited the kindergarten and observed the completed facility firsthand.
The professionalism and dedication of the Moldovan partners ensured that the visit was both productive and enjoyable. The peer review offered valuable insights into the implementation process as well as the local context.
This exchange of experience represents an essential component of the Be Ready project. We will continue our collaboration and shared pursuit of resilient and sustainable solutions.
