Be Ready: Ratiboř Shares Best Practices for Building Climate-Resilient Communities

On 21 May 2026, the multiplier event “Be Ready: Ratiboř – A Best Practice Example” took place in Ratiboř, bringing together representatives of municipalities, experts, and stakeholders to exchange knowledge and practical solutions for adapting to climate change. The event was organised as part of the Interreg Danube Region Be Ready project, which supports cities and municipalities in increasing their resilience to urban heat islands and climate-related challenges.

The main objective of the event was to present the achievements of the Be Ready project in Ratiboř and demonstrate how innovative and practical adaptation measures can improve the quality of life in urban areas. Participants were introduced to the project activities implemented locally, including microclimate measurements, participatory processes involving citizens and stakeholders, vulnerability analysis, and the development of a Local Action Plan.

One of the key highlights of the programme was a field visit to the project’s pilot measure — a bioclimatic bus stop designed to reduce heat stress and improve comfort in public spaces. This innovative solution combines a green roof, sustainable rainwater management, and adiabatic cooling, demonstrating how small-scale interventions can have a meaningful impact on adapting urban environments to rising temperatures.

The event welcomed mayors and municipal representatives, including participants from the South Moravian Region, where communities are increasingly facing the impacts of climate change, such as extreme heat waves and prolonged drought periods. Their participation underlined the importance of cooperation and knowledge exchange between local authorities in developing effective climate adaptation strategies.

During the event, participants also learned about available support mechanisms for implementing adaptation measures, including opportunities provided through JINAG, grant programmes, and other tools available to municipalities. Examples of successful climate adaptation practices from the Czech Republic and abroad were also presented, offering inspiration for further actions.

The multiplier event successfully contributed to raising awareness about urban heat island mitigation, sharing practical experiences, and strengthening cooperation between municipalities, experts, and stakeholders. Through initiatives such as Be Ready, local communities are taking important steps toward creating greener, cooler, and more resilient places for the future.
