Galați Endorses Local Action Plan to Address Urban Heat Island Effects
The Municipality of Galați marked an important milestone in its climate adaptation efforts with the endorsement of the Local Action Plan for the Prevention and Mitigation of Urban Heat Island (UHI) Effects for the period 2026–2029.
The endorsement meeting brought together representatives of local authorities, experts, and members of the Local Coalition Pact to review and validate the proposed measures aimed at reducing the impact of urban heat and improving the city’s resilience to climate change.
During the event, participants were presented with the Action Plan, including the process behind its development, its main objectives, and the planned interventions tailored to the needs of Galați Municipality. The discussion also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange views and reinforce cooperation on future implementation steps.
A key outcome of the meeting was the formal endorsement of the Action Plan, reflecting the shared commitment of local stakeholders to integrate UHI-related measures into local policies and strategic planning processes.
The initiative is part of the Be Ready project financed through the Interreg Danube Region Programme, co-funded by the European Union, supporting cities in developing effective responses to climate-related challenges.
