Ratiboř Pilot Action: Climate Adaptation in Practice – Watch the Video
Discover how the small municipality of Ratiboř is turning the challenge of rising temperatures into a practical example of community-driven climate adaptation within the Be Ready project.
In early autumn 2025, Ratiboř successfully completed its pilot action to address urban heat island (UHI) effects – conditions where built-up surfaces retain heat and elevate local temperatures. Through cooperation with the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, the town conducted a detailed UHI Vulnerability and Risk Assessment to identify the most heat-affected areas. One daily-used site along the main traffic route was selected for intervention.
The pilot combines innovative technical and nature-based solutions:
Adiabatic cooling panels that use evaporative water cooling, fed from a rainwater retention tank.
A vegetated green roof of succulents to lower surface temperatures.
A vertical green wall with climbing plants for long-term microclimate benefits.
A modular system that enhances resilience, visual quality and energy efficiency.
Watch the video to see the pilot action come to life, learn how Ratiboř combined technical innovation and community engagement, and hear firsthand what local participants and stakeholders have to say about this climate adaptation effort.
Ratiboř’s approach shows that even smaller towns can pioneer smart, targeted solutions for climate resilience — and offers a model that other communities across the Danube region can adapt.
