Varaždin Stakeholders Endorse Action Plan to Tackle Urban Heat Islands

On 7 May 2026, an Action Plan Endorsement Meeting took place in Varaždin, Croatia, bringing together local authorities, regional institutions, civil society organizations, energy and spatial planning experts, and academia

The hybrid event was hosted by Development Agency North – DAN d.o.o. and gathered 20 participants, including representatives of the City of Varaždin, 3 E Projekti, P4 Youth Center, Association VUK, the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering, Regional Energy Agency North (REA North), and the Institute for Physical Planning of Varaždin County.

During the meeting, participants reviewed and discussed the Action Plan to Tackle Urban Heat Islands (UHI) in the City of Varaždin. Special attention was given to monitoring activities, including methods for data collection, strengthening stakeholder cooperation, and integrating monitoring results into local planning and decision-making processes.

The meeting marked an important step towards enhancing climate resilience in Varaždin by encouraging collaboration between local and regional actors and supporting the implementation of sustainable solutions to reduce the effects of urban heat islands.
