Watch the Video: Galați’s Pilot Action — Cooling Public Space and Building Climate Resilience
Discover how Galați, Romania is advancing climate adaptation through a targeted intervention to reduce thermal discomfort in an urban heat‑vulnerable area, implemented under the Be Ready project.
Although the city benefits from cooling breezes from the nearby Danube River, residents living further inland often face high summer temperatures. To address this, Galați identified a local urban heat island (UHI) hotspot – the Micro 18 corridor, characterised by long stretches of asphalt and apartment blocks – and introduced its first green‑blue pilot intervention there. The project transformed a busy bus stop by surrounding it with plants and adding a misting system designed to cool the surrounding air and improve comfort for waiting passengers.
Watch the video to see how small, context‑specific green‑blue solutions can help cool public spaces, increase liveability and move communities toward more climate‑resilient urban environments.
