Event "Accelerating the circular transformation in textiles and furniture" in Varna, Bulgaria

On 20 November 2025, an event dedicated to circular transformation in the textile and furniture sectors took place at the TexCycle Recycling Center of Eurotex Ltd. in Varna, Bulgaria. The event was organised within the framework of the Green-Tex project and brought together producers, technology organisations, sustainability professionals and educational institutions. The focus was placed on the new EU requirements related to sustainable products, ecodesign and the Digital Product Passport (DPP).

The meeting opened with a presentation of Eurotex’s contribution to Green-Tex Pilot 2, which aims to test the wider use of locally sourced natural fibres in textile production. The project team introduced the objectives of the pilot and discussed challenges such as textile waste prevention, promotion of reuse and the efficient utilisation of textile resources.

Participants were introduced to the first prototypes developed by Eurotex, including nonwoven materials containing high percentages of wool combined with recycled fibres and models produced exclusively through mechanical recycling. The programme also showcased examples of final products manufactured with these materials, as well as items from the “Upcycling by TexCycle” line.

The event addressed key topics related to the circular economy, including the potential of wool as a local resource, trends in textile waste accumulation and the transition towards circular business models. The upcoming Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) was presented with emphasis on its expected impact on production processes and the increased need for traceability and data management.

The practical component included a visit to Eurotex’s recycling and sorting facilities, providing insight into the collection, sorting and mechanical recycling of textile materials. The demonstrations highlighted the potential of recycled fibres to be reintegrated into new production cycles.

In the closing discussion, participants addressed topics such as data verification within the DPP system, the expected adaptation of brand requirements and the growing role of transparency for consumers. The event underlined the importance of practical exchange and capacity building in driving the circular transition.

The Green-Tex project will continue supporting regional enterprises through pilot activities and knowledge-sharing actions focused on sustainable and circular development in the textile and furniture sectors.
