Green-Tex and TEX-DAN Final Conference in Budapest Highlights Circular Textile Future for the Danube Region
Budapest Conference Advances Circular Textile Cooperation in the Danube Region
The Final Conference of the international projects Green-Tex and TEX-DAN was held in Budapest on 19–20 May 2026, focusing on the development of sustainable and circular models in the textile and fashion industry across the Danube Region. The event brought together a diverse range of participants, including representatives from academia, SMEs, international organisations, and civil society, with the aim of presenting project results, exchanging experiences, and strengthening regional cooperation.
On the first day, project partners held meetings and joint thematic sessions dedicated to sustainable business models, green innovation, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and the advancement of the circular economy. A particular highlight of the programme was the “CIRCULAR FUTURES- Reframing Fashion Show”, where students from Óbuda University presented innovative collections inspired by sustainable design principles and material reuse.
The second day featured the main conference at Óbuda University, attended by numerous experts and representatives of different organisations and institutions from Danube region. The sessions emphasised the importance of international cooperation, innovation, and joint action in addressing environmental challenges in the textile industry. Key results of the Green-Tex and TEX-DAN projects were presented, including the establishment of cooperation networks, the development of educational programmes, and the promotion of circular economy principles.
One of the most significant outcomes of the conference was the signing of the Green-Tex Pact, as well as the establishment of the TEX-DAN Danube Circular Textile Cluster, laying the foundations for long-term and structured cooperation aimed at advancing a circular textile industry in the Danube Region.
The conference reaffirmed that sustainable fashion and the circular economy represent key directions for the future development of the textile sector, with a strong focus on linking academia, industry, and the public sector through international cooperation and joint initiatives.
For the occasion of the Final Conference, the Green-Tex project produced a comprehensive publication showcasing the main solutions and key lessons learned from the piloting activities implemented throughout the project. The publication brought together the results of the three pilot actions, highlighting innovative approaches, practical experiences, and tested solutions developed in the field of textile waste management, sustainable materials, and green design practices.
It served as a key knowledge-sharing output, summarizing the achievements of the project partners and demonstrating how the piloted solutions contributed to advancing circular economy principles in the textile and fashion sector. In addition to presenting technical results, the publication also reflected on the challenges encountered during implementation and the valuable insights gained through cross-border cooperation.
By consolidating these experiences, the publication provided a useful reference for stakeholders, policymakers, and practitioners interested in replicating or further developing similar initiatives. It was officially presented at the Final Conference as part of the project’s efforts to ensure long-term impact and dissemination of results beyond the project lifetime.
