Green-Tex Presented at VERDEinMED Conference: Exploring Synergies for Circular Textile Solutions
Representatives of the LP1 SERDA participated in the international conference VERDEinMED, held on 13 March 2026 in Thessaloniki, Greece, where they presented the GREEn‑TEX project.
Within the roundtable “Making circularity work: synergies across the textile value chain”, participants discussed opportunities for cooperation and the capitalisation of European project results that contribute to the development of a circular textile sector. The panel brought together representatives of several international initiatives, including Green‑Tex, TRUSTEX, AEQUALIS4TCLF, TechStyle, MEDinCHAMBERS and REPper.
During the discussion, key results of the Green-Tex project were presented, including the development of smart textile waste collection systems through sensor-equipped containers connected to a digital monitoring platform, as well as the testing of new materials made from recycled fibres and wool. The project’s contribution to strengthening the capacities of designers and SMEs in circular design and green fashion was also highlighted.
Participation in the conference was particularly important in terms of capitalising on project results, as it enabled the exchange of experiences and the identification of potential synergies with other European projects developing complementary solutions along the textile value chain- from innovation and education to textile waste management and new business models.
The conference also gathered numerous experts and projects working in the fields of circular economy, innovation and sustainable resource management. Through panels and workshops, participants discussed topics such as knowledge transfer in sustainable textile systems, innovative public procurement models for sustainable textiles, and the integration of innovation and policy into industrial transition.
Discussions showed that European projects are developing complementary solutions across the entire textile value chain- from waste prevention and reuse to the development of new materials, digital tools and innovative business models.
The conclusions of the conference highlighted the need for stronger cooperation between research, industry, local authorities and the creative sector in order to accelerate the transition towards a circular textile economy. Participants emphasized that innovation, digital tools and international cooperation are key factors for successfully reducing textile waste and developing new sustainable markets.
In this context, the Green-Tex project represents an important example of how pilot activities, technological innovation and education can contribute to creating a more sustainable and competitive textile ecosystem in Europe.
