Raising Awareness on Textile Overconsumption in the Municipality of Postojna

By giving "New Life to Used Items," Green-Tex project partner Municipality of Postojna in collaboration with the Prostor Association, is raising awareness about the consequences of excessive textile consumption. Through engaging workshops and clothing swaps, they offer sustainable alternatives to traditional shopping habits.

The GREEN-TEX project activities  to be carried out by  Municipality Postojna are scheduled from August 2024 to the end of September 2025. The planned activities will focus on raising awareness and educating the public about the health and environmental impacts of fast fashion. Through workshops, the consequences of excessive purchasing of cheap clothing will be highlighted, and clothing swap events will offer clothing and footwear swaps as an alternative to traditional shopping.

To reach diverse age groups, both in terms of awareness and participation in swaps, activities will be held at various locations in collaboration with different organizations.

In the first week of August, a two-day recycling workshop will be organized for around 50 children at the Postojna Youth Center. During this workshop, children will transform old cotton t-shirts into beach bags. To complement their new creations, a swap of summer items will also be held.

Throughout the workshop, children will learn about the journey of a cotton garment—from the fields of American farms to the factories in China. They will discover the extensive water and chemical usage involved in cotton production and textile processing and understand that many garments are often made by child laborers. The aim of the workshop is to encourage children to think critically about responsible clothing use.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our efforts to promote sustainable fashion and conscious consumption.
