Following the Dragon Pozoj

On 13 June 2026, a full-day interpretative tour entitled “Following the Dragon Pozoj” was organised in Međimurje County as part of the MYSTICAL DANUBE project.

The tour connects Čakovec as the main contact point with the associated contact points in Donji Vidovec, Donja Dubrava and Štrigova through the legend of the Dragon Pozoj. It forms part of the transnational Green and Mystical Danube Storytelling Route.

The programme began in Čakovec with a guided city tour and an introduction to the legend of Pozoj. This was followed by a journey through the lower Međimurje region, accompanied by the interpretation of its natural, cultural and traditional heritage. In Donji Vidovec, visitors were introduced to local legends and the tradition of gold panning. In Donja Dubrava, participants learned about the rich flojsar heritage and local stories related to Pozoj. At both locations, traditional songs and dances performed by local cultural associations were also presented.

The tour concluded in Štrigova, where the programme included a visit to the Dragon Garden, the story of the Štrigova Pozoj, the Church of St. Jerome and the Pušipel Centre.

Particular value was added to the programme by heritage interpreters who, through dramatic performances, traditional customs and presentations, introduced visitors to the richness of Međimurje stories and local identity.

The Public Institution for Development of Međimurje County REDEA would like to thank everyone who participated in the organisation and implementation of the programme, especially Good Vibration Travel Agency, the mayors of the host municipalities, the local community and heritage interpreters, Rudi Grula, Director of the Međimurje County Tourist Board, members of KUD Donji Vidovec, MNK Vidovski Zlatari, Neven Kolarić and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Štrigova, Valkaj Keramos Studio, KUD Seljačka sloga Donja Dubrava, NK Fljojsar from Donja Dubrava, and Robert Horvat from the Hortus Croatiae Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers.
