"Green and Mystical Danube Storytelling Route" presented in Piskavica

On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, we organized an event - a themed guided tour to Donja Piskavica, in order to present the new Green and Mystical Danube Storytelling Route. In addition to the route itself, which stretches through 9 different countries, visitors were presented with the contact point of the route, located in the House of Culture in Donja Piskavica, and everything that was done through the project: reconstructed parts of the building, procured furniture and equipment, an info board with a QR code that leads to the mobile application of the route, banners with elements of natural and cultural intangible heritage, and a permanent exhibition of traditional costumes and devices used in old households in Potkozarje area.

The guests were hosted by KUD Piskavica, which, along with the usual welcome that includes crossing the fence, bread and salt, presented the visitors with a traditional house with a hearth, the way of making and playing the “trožica” tambourine, as well as a wicker fence and a wheelbarrow that were partly made through the “Preservation of old crafts and skills” training organized for the local population. It is worth adding that the wheelbarrow now serves as an exhibition space for horse-drawn carts and traditional tools used by local households in agriculture and animal husbandry.

After the tour, the visitors were treated to a performance of the traditional celebration of the “Patron’s Saint Day”, and had the opportunity to learn about the traditions, customs and beliefs of the inhabitants of Piskavica and other villages of Potkozarje area. At the very end of the event, the visitors were explained how to dance “Kozaračko kolo”, and then they danced it themselves.

This event, which combines natural and intangible cultural heritage and sustainable tourism, was organized as part of the Mystic Danube project, which is co-financed by the EU within the Transnational Cooperation Program of the Danube Region 2021–2027.
